Source: cogsworthylemonSo I watched Amy Sherman-Palladino’s final contribution to her creation, Gilmore Girls, the other day. This scene is quite well done, even though Amy just leads the characters down a peerless well and it’s up to David S. Rosenthal to lift them up. Lauren Graham delivers this speech with genuine heartbreak that’s true to eternal-stubborn-child Lorelai. It’s a lovely touch to have Sam Phillips (who wrote the theme music for the show) play one of the competing musicians to be the new troubadour of Stars Hollow; she just sings in the background, playing a simple sad song amidst the faltering relationship between Luke and Lorelai. It’s things like that brought a sense of whimsical fantasy to Gilmore Girls.
Uhhhff. As much as I hate this scene because I love Luke so much and I hate to see him hurt, and I feel like Lorelai is being selfish, that’s all besides the point - it’s still so beautifully acted. And I’m very much an optimist so I, naively I guess, believe that love shouldn’t be this difficult and it should all just work out, it’s definitely true to Lorelai’s emotionally-driven, stubborn character. And it’s a scene that I love even though I hate it.
